The police have no record of any injuries being caused on the island’s roads by the brightness of LED vehicle headlights.
Justice and Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson was questioned on the issue by Jason Moorhouse (Arbory, Castletown and Malew) in Keys.
Mrs Poole-Wilson said there is no record of injuries being caused on the roads where headlights were a factor and the system wouldn’t allow for searches for non-injury crashes.
She added: “This is not possible within current resources without allocating officers away from active duties.
“The team found that there were no injury collisions where this factor was identified. Please note that the category searched for applies to all vehicle headlights, not exclusively LED headlights.
“The department remains committed to ensuring road safety and will continue to monitor and assess factors that contribute to road traffic incidents, including those related to vehicle lighting.”
Concerns
Mr Moorhouse said he had raised the issue after concerns were brought to him by constituents about the brightness of some cars’ headlights.
However the minister said the issue was one for the DoI and the road vehicles lighting regulations 2014.
