The condition of Arbory Road between Castle Rushen High School and the Southern 100 Headquarters was discussed in the House of Keys today.
Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall MHK said the most recent carriageway inspection took place on November 18, 2025 and found no significant or safety-critical defects.
He explained that Arbory Road is classified as a district road and is inspected every three months, with the next inspection scheduled for February 18, 2026.
‘No defects’
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse challenged the assessment, saying visible rutting and surface erosion were evident along the route and questioned how the road could be deemed free of safety-critical issues.
The Minister said two reports of defects were received in early January relating to loose gravel and surface conditions at the A5 Castletown bypass junction.
These have been assessed for repair with work due to take place once equipment repairs are completed.
Questions were also raised about whether the department had been contacted by Southern 100 organisers and whether recent surface dressing work had been considered.
The Minister said he was not aware of any communication but would check, and committed to asking officers to provide further clarification on how defects are assessed and prioritised.
