Complaints Made Over Manx.Net Charge

The Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority has received 19 complaints regarding changes to the Manx.net email service.

Manx Telecom announced it was ending the free email service, moving to a charged system run by Junara at a cost of £65 per year or £6.50 per month.

However, customers complained to CURA citing, among other issues, unfair costs and poor communication.

Complaints highlighted “the charge to retain a Manx.net email account” and concerns it was “unfair, particularly for those with low income”.

One user reported falling “victim to a scam as a result of the changes”.

Others raised issues with the “short notice” given to update contact details and a perceived lack of “suitable support or guidance” for vulnerable users.

One complaint alleged the changes may breach “regulatory obligations relating to fairness, transparency [and] data-portability”.

CURA stated the Manx.net email service “is not regulated,” preventing intervention in what it called “a commercial decision made by Manx Telecom”. The authority received 19 complaints in total since January 2025.
