Ørsted held a closed‑door dinner earlier this year for a small group of senior business and community figures to discuss the wider impact of the proposed Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm.
The invitation‑only event on April 20 focused on economic growth, energy security and long‑term benefits for the island.
In a follow‑up message to attendees, Ørsted confirmed the discussion would be held under Chatham House Rules to ensure a confidential and open exchange.
Further details, including the venue, were provided only to invited guests.
Normal & Expected
In a comment to Manx.News, a spokesperson for Ørsted said: “Engaging with businesses, local authorities, community groups, and other stakeholders is a normal and expected part of developing any major infrastructure project. Providing factual information to stakeholders should not be confused with seeking endorsement. We’ve met with various groups and authorities throughout the development – including Garff and Onchan commissioners.
“Businesses across the Isle of Man have a legitimate interest in understanding how a project of this scale could affect the Island’s long-term energy security and economy. The Isle of Man Government’s own business surveys have identified energy costs as one of the key issues facing local businesses, making these entirely appropriate subjects for discussion.
“We will continue to engage openly with all interested stakeholders throughout the process, just as supporters and opponents of the project are entitled to do. We respect that every organisation and individual will reach their own conclusions based on evidence.
“Some individuals and organisations have told us they feel uncomfortable expressing their views publicly, which makes it important that people can ask questions and receive factual information in a setting where they feel able to engage constructively.”
