Over 2,400 Virtual GP Appointments

A six-month pilot of a virtual GP service has provided over 2,400 additional telephone appointments since its launch in March.

The trial, a collaboration between Ramsey Group Practice and provider Tekihealth, has delivered an average of 413 extra consultations per month.

Between April and October, the service frequently resulted in prescriptions and general advice, with a smaller number of cases being escalated for a face-to-face review.

A small patient survey conducted in October showed strong support for the new model. From 26 responses, 20 (77%) indicated a strong satisfaction for the service.

In a written answer, Health Minister Claire Christian, said: “Manx Care will undertake an evaluation of the current service, which will be presented to the Department of Health and Social Care.”

This will include looking at other models of virtual GP provision to inform decisions on potentially expanding the service.
