The Jane Crookall Maternity Unit has recorded one of its busiest months in recent memory, delivering 74 babies in July.

Staff carried out 959 antenatal and postnatal assessments across the month, supporting families through what the unit described as “a huge” period of activity.

Of the babies born, 40 were girls and 34 were boys, with two sets of twins among them. Birth weights ranged from 1.9kg to 4.7kg.

There were seven preterm births, while 29 babies arrived spontaneously and 29 were born following induction.

The unit praised its Midwives, Obstetricians, MSWs, MCAs and wider team for their work, congratulating all the new families after what it called “our busiest month in a long time.”
