The Steam Packet has warned passengers to expect some delays at Heysham while its usual berth is out of use.
Due to its usual number one berth being out of use, sailings to and from Heysham are currently operating from berths two and three.
The company explained: “In Heysham, generally, each operator uses an allocated linkspan. This means freight for each sailing is parked for each operator’s needs.
“Because we are currently using a different link span, our freight is having to take a longer route to be loaded and unloaded.
“Foot passengers have to board and disembark via coaches. This is due to these berths not having facilities for passengers. There is no safe route by foot between the terminal and the vessel.
“Despite our best efforts we have to wait until there is sufficient space on the vehicle decks for the coaches to park and allow safe passenger movement. This may lead to delays disembarking for foot passengers but we work hard to try to minimise any disruption.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank passengers for their understanding as we work through this situation.”
