Isle of Man Post Office has introduced changes to its international service.
The return of US parcel services and a reduction in large letter weight are among the list of updates that came into effect today.
All items containing goods, sent internationally, must now be sent as a parcel. These services will be available online and through the following post offices: Postal Headquarters, Douglas; Strand Street, Douglas; Station Road, Port Erin; The Parade, Castletown; Atholl Street, Peel; Parliament Street, Ramsey.
Customers will also be asked to provide more detailed customs information to prevent delays.
Changes to customs, import VAT and other charges will apply when sending goods to a number of European nations. This may involve additional charges where applicable, the Post Office is warning
Customers will also once again be able to send parcels with goods to the US.
The international letter services remains largely unchanged and will continue to be available at all Isle of Man Post Offices.
Importantly however, the maximum weight limit for international large letter items is being reduced from 750g to 500g. Heavier items will have to be sent with the parcel service available online and at the Post Offices listed above.
IoM Post Chief Executive Simon Kneen said: “These changes are being introduced in response to new international customs and regulatory requirements, helping to ensure customers can continue sending goods overseas with confidence.
“We are particularly pleased to be able to reinstate parcel services to the United States, which we know will be welcomed by both personal and business customers.”
