Volunteers, parents and guardians could be asked to go on school trips as a way to meet the Steam Packet’s new child ratio policy.
Groups with children under 16 will now be required to provide one adult for every five children.
During this week’s Keys sitting, Minister Daphne Caine faced more questions on the change and how it will impact schools.
She said that her department is continuing to seek a way forward for trips which could include guardians going on trips, but said that the company will not be backing down on the change.
The minister said: “”On the December 19, a DESC senior officer met with Isle of Man Steam Packet and the outcome of that, in terms of a workaround that could be put in place to comply with the ratios, it was suggested that volunteers, parents or guardians are asked to accompany groups traveling on board.”
