Infrastructure Minister Dr Michelle Haywood has reiterated her commitment to reviewing the island’s parking permit system but stated that limited departmental resources mean the work is not a current priority.
The commitment was originally made in January 2025.
During Keys Dr Haywood said: “I remain fully committed to reviewing the parking permit system. That commitment has not changed.” S
he added the review would “actively progress once the necessary capacity is available”.

The issue was raised by Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh, who expressed residents’ concerns, particularly in Zone H.
He told the minister, “I can assure the minister that it may not be her priority. It is very much the priority of people who live in the zone H.”
Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas questioned whether the impact of the Westmoreland Village development had been fully considered in planning approvals, noting some residents have already moved in.
Dr Haywood declined to comment on a live planning application but confirmed the parking review is an “island wide issue”.
Ann Corlett also highlighted specific frustrations, citing “large vans or mobile homes, not to mention abandoned cars parked outside their homes for weeks, sometimes months on end”.
The minister indicated that, subject to the conclusion of 20 mph zone consultations, she anticipates resources will free up to begin the parking review in early 2026.
