Non-residents still owe the island £139,229 from unpaid hospital bills, the health minister has revealed.
This includes £99,194 owed by an individual from Canada which is now subject to a court order.
The figures were disclosed by Claire Christian in response to a question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge about income from hospital services provided to non-residents since 2016.
Under the Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement with the UK, most visitors are not charged for hospital care. However, patients from outside the Isle of Man and UK are billed under NHS Overseas Visitors Regulations.
Ms Christian said: “Accounting data available from the 2017/18 financial year onwards has been extracted referencing invoices against territories excluding the Isle of Man and United Kingdom.”
She noted recent improvements in identifying overseas visitors, leading to higher invoicing, particularly during TT and Manx GP.
The minister said the 2020/21 zero figures were due to “Covid impact resulting in no overseas activity,” while 2021/22 saw reduced activity.
