An application to demolish Peel’s former Empire Garage and replace it with colourful terraced housing has been recommended for approval.

The proposal consists of a row of four three-bed terraced homes across three floors fronting Marine Parade on the site of the former garage showroom and workshop.
The southern portion of the scheme between Gib Lane and Stanley Road also includes a row of three-storey three-bed dwellings.
Having considered the submissions from residents and the local authority, principal planner Toby Cowell has recommended that the plans be approved.
He said: “The proposed development is considered to amount to a highly efficient reuse of a brownfield site within an urban area, whilst being of an appropriate layout, scale and density to ensure that the general character and appearance of the wider Conservation Area would be preserved.
“The proposals would provide a high standard of living for future occupants, without resulting in a detrimental impact upon the amenities of surrounding residential properties.”
The planning committee will rule on the proposal at its meeting on Monday morning.
