An application has been submitted to convert tennis courts at Onchan Park into padel courts.
Onchan Commissioners has entered into an Agreement to Lease a number of their tennis courts to Padel Tennis Isle of Man Ltd.
The company’s application says it wants to breathe new life into a “substantially under-utilised existing community facility”.
If approved, only the top half of the tennis courts would be converted.
It adds: “Padel Tennis Isle of Man Ltd intends to create a very high quality facility that will include the complete resurfacing of the existing tennis courts and adjacent areas, and the installation of the court enclosures as illustrated on the submitted drawings, including a canopy to one of the courts to allow play to be undertaken in more inclement weather, and to more readily accommodate more vulnerable players.
“In addition to the courts, the intention is to provide a respite area using a containerised seating facility.”
The intention is to have the courts available for play from 7am to 10pm.
You can read the full application here.
Plans have previously been submitted for a separate facility at Douglas’ Noble’s Park.
