Plans have been submitted to install electrical vehicle charging points at Ronaldsway.
Manx Utilities’ application aims to repurpose existing parking bays for commercial hire cars into a multi-use EV charging facility.
The project includes a solar canopy to power the rapid charging units and will create six additional public charging bays.
The facility will cater to businesses, airport patrons, staff, and commuters.
In its application, MUA said: “The airport has many staff who could use the facility, given the low running costs for EVs compared to fossil fuel the facility could attract staff from all over the island, where previously the travel cost may have been a barrier for recruitment.’
Retail
It also suggests that islanders may like to stop off at the airport for some shopping.
It said: “People commuting to and from the workplace would benefit from a short dwell time on their route to or from work.
“Alternatively an hour’s charge would likely provide enough energy for the majority of the week’s travel, this could bring footfall to the airport’s retail outlets whilst charging, thus supporting local business.”
