Drivers have been warned to make sure their vehicle is in good working order after the police launched their latest road safety campaign.
This morning the Roads Policing Unit working in conjunction with the Douglas policing team, the vehicle testing centre, customs, and the Isle of Man road safety team, launched Operation Uplift.
Operation Uplift is a multi-agency operation, intended to tackle anti-social driving/fatal five offences (phone use, seatbelt use, due care, speeding, and drink and drug driving), improve the standards of vehicles used on the Isle of Man’s road network, and to ensure the correct administration of drivers and vehicles (licences, insurance and road tax).
The Roads Policing Unit said: ‘The operation will continue to run over the coming weeks and months and will be island wide, where we will be conducting both roadside check points, and attending areas whereby anti-social driving is frequently reported.’
Of the 57 vehicles stopped and checked, 11 vehicle defect rectification notices were issued, 1 enforceable fixed penalty notice was issued for a tyre related offence and 2 vehicles failed emissions tests, and have been given a period of time to rectify the issues causing the high emissions.
Further to this, 2 vehicles were identified as having expired road tax.
