The island’s population is believed to have reached a new record high, according to the latest Isle of Man in Numbers report.
Published on Monday, the report covers a wide range of aspects of island life.
The island’s population is now estimated to be 84,523, an increase of 454 people since the 2021 census and tops the previous high recorded in the 2011 census of 84,497.
Natural Decline
Despite the growth, the figures reveal a significant natural decline, with deaths outnumbering births.
In the 2024/25 period, there were 563 births registered compared to 897 deaths, resulting in a natural population decrease of 334 for the year.
The report also showed stability in the jobs market, as registered unemployment rate stood at just 0.7% in March 2025, with only 322 people actively seeking work.
A broader measure of unemployment, which includes those not registered for benefits, was estimated at 1.7%.
Average weekly earnings for full-time employees were recorded at £929 in June 2024, with the median wage at £765. The number of people in employment was 36,593, supported by over 52,000 individual jobs.
Housing
In contrast, the housing market showed signs of moderation.
The average house price was £384,179 for the year to March 2025, while the average flat price was £207,104.
Transaction volumes saw 1,212 house sales and 279 flat sales lodged with the Land Registry during the same period.
