Ben to Carry Freight as Tides Hit Schedule

The Ben-my-Chree will operate a freight only service this afternoon as no freight will be loaded onto Manxman this morning.

Due to tidal conditions in Douglas, Manxman will not be able to enter the port until 7:10am.

The Steam Packet told hauliers, “it is imperative to keep the Manxman to schedule as she needs to arrive back in Douglas tomorrow [today] evening no later than 17:30, again due to tidal issues in Douglas port”.

To keep Manxman on schedule, a decision has been made to not load any freight on the 8:30am sailing from Douglas to Heysham this morning.

Instead, the Steam Packet has brought in the Ben-my-Chree to run a 5pm freight only service to Heysham this afternoon.

Douglas Port, also known as Circus Beach, was closed to freight yesterday afternoon due to lack of space at the port.

Sources have told Manx.News that “any containers that arrive 90 minutes before a sailing will not be loaded”.

It has been reported that seven trailers were left at the port yesterday morning for the reason that they arrived too close to the sailing time.
