Port St. Mary ‘Saddened’ by Loss of Lifeboat

Port St. Mary Lifeboat have said they’re “saddened by the news that all-weather lifeboat operations at Port St.Mary RNLI Station will come to an end in 2028.”

In a statement made on Facebook in the wake of the announcement, the southern station reassured residents that its all-weather vessel, Henry Heys Duckworth, will “remain a valued part of our lifesaving capability until then.”

The news comes amid the RNLI carrying out a large-scale overhaul of its UK and Irish fleet, as part of a 15-year plan to modernise the charity’s offering and respond to the growing demand for maritime rescue. The Trent class lifeboat has been in service in Port St. Mary since 1998.

The station went on to say that Frank Martin, it’s D class inshore lifeboat, will remain unaffected and continue to play in important role in operations and service to the community.
