National Grid and SP Energy Networks have unveiled proposals a new high-voltage offshore cable connection that will pass through Manx waters.
The project will carry renewable electricity from offshore wind farms in Scottish waters to a landfall on the Gwynedd coastline in North Wales.
The proposed route runs through Scottish, Northern Irish, Isle of Man and Welsh waters.
In North Wales, plans include a new converter station near the existing Pentir Substation, with underground cables connecting to the national network.
The project is in its early design stage. “We will consult and work with local residents, their representatives and statutory stakeholders throughout all stages of the planning process,” the company said.
A non-statutory consultation on emerging proposals is planned for 2026.
“Feedback plays an important part in the development of our proposals and helps to shape the project before we submit our planning application,” National Grid added.
Early survey work is already underway. The company says it will be “engaging with landowners and occupiers to seek access to undertake surveys”.
