Manx Care’s Antenatal Team are inviting pregnant smokers to its Quit4You clinic at Noble’s.
The weekly sessions offer support and guidance to parents throughout pregnancy, with a particular focus on smoking cessation.
The sessions run from 1pm – 4pm every Wednesday (excluding Bank Holidays) at the Antenatal Clinic and may be accessed by expectant parents following their initial booking appointment with their Midwife.
Pregnant Smokers
During the booking appointment, the Midwife will check your blood pressure, measure your height and weight, test your urine and measure your carbon monoxide level.
Parents are automatically referred to Quit4Two through an opt-out process, but they can also choose to refer themselves or seek help from a Midwife at any time.
Smoking is the leading preventable cause of pregnancy-related complications, increasing the risk of childhood illnesses.
Mothers should quit smoking as early as possible in pregnancy, ideally before 15 weeks, to significantly reduce risks such as premature birth and low birth weight.
Exposure to carbon monoxide during pregnancy can lead to serious health risks, as it deprives the fetus of oxygen, hinders growth and development, and increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, and sudden infant death syndrome.
The Quit4Two Team are here to support you if you’d like to quit smoking.
