Public Meeting to Update on Windfarm

A public meeting will be held in Laxey next month to discuss Ørsted’s proposed Mooir Vannin offshore windfarm.

The event, organised by Garff Commissioners, takes place at 7pm on Tuesday August 26 at the Laxey Working Men’s Institute.

The Commissioners said,: “The meeting is being held specifically to gather public opinion on the proposal, which outlines an array of around 90 wind turbines positioned 6 to 12 nautical miles off the island’s east coast, extending from approximately Maughold Head to Douglas Bay.”

Ørsted’s latest consultation report states the turbines could reach up to 350 metres in height, with maximum blade lengths of 148 metres.

The Commissioners added: “We are not presenting a view on the proposal on the night, but are holding this meeting to hear directly from the community about potential visual, environmental, and other impacts.

“Your feedback will help inform our understanding of public sentiment on the scheme and assist us in our discussions with Ørsted and government when the final proposals are being considered.”

Captain Stephen Carter, Captain of the Parish of Lonan, will chair the meeting which is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
