An athlete who hasn’t been seen since Easter is Commonwealth Games competitor and multiple Island Games gold medallist Rachael Franklin.
In the very last few strides of the Easter Festival 10k road race on Good Friday, in which she won the women’s race, Rachael’s knee ‘popped’.
She then spent a very frustrating few weeks trying to get a definitive diagnosis and then to get the damage repaired – for much of the time with her knee in a brace.
It transpired that Rachael had fully ruptured the patella tendon in her right knee, and she had surgery to repair this last week.
Road to Recovery
She has posted an optimistic update, commenting that if she does all the right rehab, Strength & Conditioning etc, she “should be back to my normal self again soon” – which of course means back running!

There is no tougher time for any athlete, especially one as good and ambitious as Rachael is, when you can no longer do what you are so good at.
If determination is the main requirement to get back to fitness, Rachael has it in spades as she has proved so often before.
