Ramsey RNLI Assist Yacht

Ramsey lifeboat launched on Friday evening after reports of a yacht in difficulty north of Ramsey Bay.

The crew were paged at 17:45 to a position around six nautical miles northeast of Ramsey, where concerns had been raised for a lone yachtsman.

After arriving on scene at 18:30 and putting crew aboard the vessel, the decision was made to tow the yacht back towards Ramsey.

Coastguard officers and an ambulance crew met the casualty on arrival to carry out checks.

Because the yacht was unsuitable for a tidal harbour and the lifeboat couldn’t be recovered immediately, the tow continued on to Douglas, reaching a safe berth at 22:40.

The lifeboat then returned to Ramsey, where the SLARS team completed recovery once the tide had receded. It was refuelled and back on service by 02:00.
