Ramsey Lifeboat Station has been called out twice in two weeks to help people in difficulty near the town’s raft.

The volunteer crew were paged at 2.29pm today to go the aid of two people who had taken refuge on the South Beach bathing raft due to a sudden deterioration in the weather conditions.
Following an assessment of the situation by Coxswain Mark Kenyon a decision was made to render assistance using the inflatable X-Boat. The X-Boat was deployed with two crew and further managed by a safety line to other crew on the beach.
The X-boat was then rowed out to the raft to extract the persons and return them to the beach. Sea conditions at the time of the event were challenging due to the strong wind and driving rain.
Mark said: “In this situation we were able to recover the casualties safely and quickly using our inflatable X-Boat. The casualties realised that the conditions were deteriorating and sensibly waited on the raft until we were able to reach them.
“We would strongly recommend that anyone contemplating swimming in the sea ensure that they have checked the weather forecast, have suitable floatation aids and make sure someone knows where they are.”
