It was a lovely morning, perhaps even a bit too warm for running, for the 2024 edition of the Peel to Douglas run, an event which traces its history back to 1909.
The quality on show was reflected in the fact that the two winners were both Isle of Man Commonwealth Games representatives in 2022.
Ollie Lockley won the race for the sixth time, and broke his own course record set in 2020 by 32 seconds with a cracking time of 52:08. Second was Will Draper and third Paul Atherton.
Peel to Douglas Race
Sarah Webster, having warmed up for the race by running the full route in the reverse direction, then ran a race time of 1:03:03, more than three minutes faster than her previous best set in 2017.
Second was Kirsty Barber and third Emily Mylchreest.
There were 75 finishers, the best since 2018 and the third best on the trail course.
The first five finishers ran times under the hour, the first time there have been more than four in the history of the trail race.
