A significant increase in the total number of void public housing can attributed to major redevelopment schemes, the DoI minister has said.
Tim Crookall was asked about the number of vacant properties in the last three years by Onchan MHK Rob Callister.
The Department collects quarterly performance data from all public sector housing providers, the most recent of which is data up to the end of March 2024.
Those figures showed 165 vacant properties down from the previous quarter’s figure of 186.
Mr Crookall said: “Most of this increase can be attributed to the impact that major capital projects have where decants of properties are required for demolition and redevelopment.
“Currently, there are two such major redevelopment projects which appear to be having a direct impact on total numbers of void properties at School Hill, Castletown and Cooil ny Marrey, Ramsey.
“There had been a significant increase attributed to the Westlands redevelopment in Peel during the two year period as well, but that has since concluded and void levels for Peel and Western have returned to normal levels.”
