Regan Reunites With Former Record Holder

A Manx athlete who recently broke the island’s long‑standing high jump record has met the man whose mark he surpassed.

18-year-old Regan Corrin cleared 2.19 metres to win silver at the British Indoor Championships, overtaking the 2.18m Isle of Man record set by Martin Aram in 2006.

The pair first met in 2022, when a then 15‑year‑old Corrin had just jumped 1.86m at the Isle of Man Track & Field Championships and was tipped as a future challenger to Aram’s record.

Reunion

Their reunion was arranged this week by coach John Whitlow, who has trained both athletes.

He said the meeting was “excellent”, with Aram sharing technical advice and discussing the mental side of competing at high level. Aram, who has lived abroad for many years, was “more than happy” to see his record fall and plans to stay in touch with Corrin as he continues his development.

Aram has recently returned to local headlines after launching Dazzler, a new app designed to bring all Isle of Man food outlets together on a single platform.

Corrin, meanwhile, is preparing for the outdoor season following his breakthrough indoor performance.
