The reopening of Ramsey Cottage Hospital has been pushed back after inspections uncovered wider structural and infrastructure issues.
Services were temporarily relocated in December 2025 following a pest control issue, with an early plan aiming to restore all activity by the end of April 2026.
However, once full inspections were completed, Manx Care and government departments concluded that additional remedial work is required before the site can safely return to full clinical use.
Revised Opening
A revised programme has now been agreed by Manx Care, the Department of Health and Social Care, and the Department of Infrastructure to ensure the hospital is safe, compliant and sustainable for the long term.
Phase 1 of the new plan is underway and due to finish in mid‑May.
This will allow key services, including the Minor Injuries Unit, radiology, bone density scanning, blood clinics and outpatient appointments, to return ahead of TT fortnight.
Other services will continue operating from alternative locations, with temporary transport remaining in place.
‘Future proof’
Manx Care CEO Teresa Cope said the organisation recognised the disruption but stressed the need to “future‑proof the building”.
Health Minister Claire Christian said the works were about taking “responsible decisions now”, while Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall said the programme focuses on addressing underlying issues to support services “for many years to come”.
