Essential repair work on Ramsey Swing Bridge is set to begin on or around August 3, with the structure expected to be closed to all road users for two to three weeks.
Paul Carey and Sons Ltd has been appointed to carry out the project, which involves removing part of the asphalt surface to expose the wooden deck, replacing deteriorating joists and sections of decking, and reinstating the road surface once joinery work is complete.
A closure order of up to a month is being sought to allow for weather‑related delays.
Harbours Division’s electrical team will also replace ageing fittings within the bridge structure during the closure.
The swing bridge will be inaccessible to vehicles and pedestrians throughout the works, with traffic diverted via the nearby stone bridge. Harbour access for commercial and leisure vessels will not be affected.
The Department of Infrastructure says the repairs mirror work completed last year on the wooden causeway and are essential to preserve the Victorian‑era bridge for daily use.
