The Steam Packet recorded a sharp increase in visitors travelling by sea for this year’s Southern 100, with inbound passenger numbers up 7.07% on 2025.

A total of 9,927 people arrived between July 4 to 9, plus the 02:15 Heysham sailing on July 10, compared with 9,272 over the same period last year.

Motorcycle traffic rose 7.85%, while foot passenger numbers jumped 16.29%.

Organisers say the figures underline another strong week for the Billown races, with fans travelling from across the British Isles and beyond and contributing to accommodation, hospitality and retail businesses.

Southern 100 Chairman George Peach said the growth shows the “continued appeal” of the event and its wider value to the island each summer.

Steam Packet Managing Director Brian Thomson said the company was “delighted” to see rising demand, adding that the races delivered “a brilliant week of outstanding performances and a tremendous atmosphere”.
