Report Still Not ‘ready’ For Publication

A review of the Isle of Man Meat Plant, completed back in 2024, has still not been published, despite a commitment to release it by June 1, 2026.

The delay resurfaced after Onchan MHK Julie Edge asked for all Meat Plant reports produced since the Birnie Report of 2022 to be made public.

In a written answer earlier this year, Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Clare Barber confirmed a review had been carried out in December 2024 by a Meat Plant board member, using the Birnie Report as a comparison.

DEFA said the reports were being prepared for publication and were intended to be online by June 1. That date has now passed with nothing released.

Aside from the annual regulatory audit, the Department confirmed no other reports have been commissioned since 2022.

Speaking to Manx.News, Ms Edge said: “I am following up and intend to see [the reports] published for accountability and transparency.”

Manx.News has contacted DEFA for comment.
