Last week on June 7, it was reported that Douglas Council hadn’t received any complaints about car parking issues at the TT Grandstand after reducing the capacity of Noble’s Park.
A group of residents in the area are disputing this, as they had complained via email to the Department of Infrastructure (DOI), the Police and Douglas Council from June 1.
The group informed the DOI, the police and the City Council of the ‘inconsiderate and unsafe parking’ on Laureston Grove and Laureston Close.
Residents said they were struggling to get in and out of the area, as junctions and turning space were being blocked.
The group of residents said they understood the ‘TT influx’ but felt that a solution was ‘required’.
Parking complaints
The Isle of Man Constabulary were swift in response to the residents and sent officers out to the area to assess; but the group still hadn’t received acknowledgment or correspondence from the DOI, nor the Council.
The residents highlighted the safety aspect of the parking and said, ‘safety is paramount and you would not be able to get an ambulance or fire engine near this area’.

The group claim the illegal parking in the area this year was worse due to the change in parking facilities at Nobles Park.
They claim it was taking up-to 15-30mins for residents to leave their homes from St Ninians or Laureston Grove and Close.
The emails from the group were dated up until June 9; all were very appreciative to the Isle of Man Constabulary for its response.
The group said: “As residents we are aware that side roads will be used for parking, but all we ask is for the parking to be safe and considerate.
“For the police/highways to ensure this happens. Especially for emergency access and also around the junctions and drop curbs (no access to any individuals with mobility issues/walking aids/wheelchairs/prams etc).”
