The Department for Enterprise says it has held regular discussions with retail sector representatives over the past year, covering trading conditions, cost pressures and staffing challenges.
In a written Tynwald answer, Minister Tim Johnston said Business Isle of Man has engaged with more than 100 retail owners and managers through business reviews, sector forums and multi‑stakeholder meetings.
Feedback from these sessions is reported through established channels to the Department and its board.
Initiatives Created
Issues raised include recruitment difficulties, visitor spend, footfall, payment processing, rents, rates and town‑centre conditions.
The Minister said this input has led to several initiatives, including the ‘Meet Your Street’, ‘Love Manx Christmas’ and ‘There’s More to iTT… When It’s Manx’ campaigns aimed at boosting footfall.
Following further feedback, the Town and Village Regeneration Scheme was expanded in June to offer grants of up to £25,000 for eligible retail improvements, while the Business Consultancy Scheme was broadened to support projects focused on efficiency and modernisation.
The Department says it will continue close engagement with retailers to ensure targeted support reflects the challenges facing the sector.
