Patrick Road between Patrick village and St Johns remains closed to through traffic following a landslip.
The earth fell from the uphill bank which deposited material across both traffic lanes during yesterday’s heavy and sustained rainfall.
The DoI said: “This morning the bank has been inspected by one of out structural engineers, following which work has begun to both clear the carriageway and footway.
“Measures will also be put in place to reduce the likelihood of there being further slippage at that location.”
The emergency road closure order has been extended until 4pm.
