Slieau Whallian Road in Patrick has been closed and could be shut for up to a week.
There has been a land slip affecting the roadside bank supporting the edge of carriageway, which has impacted on the integrity of the road.
A structural engineer from the DoI has inspected the site and has instructed immediate remedial works to be undertaken. A team is now on site and works have begun.
The current emergency road closure has been authorised until 8am on Wednesday 11 February, but conditions on site may mean the closure has to be extended, this will become apparent as work progresses.
All properties on Slieu Whallian Road will continue to be accessible from the Ballanass junction (top of road) only.
There will be no vehicular access to or from Patrick Road for either pedestrians or vehicular traffic.
