It’s not often that the weather is glorious in the Isle of Man and the UK whilst it is terrible in Spain, but that was the case for Sarah Astin last Sunday (January 7) in Elgoibar.
Despite a cancelled flight and horrible weather Astin ran brilliantly for England in the international cross-country event, placing fifth.
In the picture above she is flanked by two of her England teammates Niamh Brown who was fourth and Lauren Hall who was sixth – whilst the spectators in the background huddle under brollies!

In 2023, Astin won the women’s title at the English National Cross-Country Championships.
Representing Belgrave Harriers, Astin pulled clear of former European champion Gemma Steel to take victory at Bolesworth Castle, Cheshire.
Sarah at Commonwealth Games
Astin represented the Isle of Man at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
All eyes were on the Alexander Stadium at the Games to see Sarah Astin and Rachael Franklin both compete in the Women’s 5000m Final.
Sarah (28) finished 16th with a time of 15:39:54.
Following this, Astin was among the awards the nominations for the hotly contested sportsman and sportswoman of the year for 2022.
