Corbyn Schade wrote his name into the history books as the latest winner of the classic Peel to Douglas Trail Run, sponsored by Brendan Downey Construction Ltd.
Storming to victory in yesterday’s (September 20) contest, Corbyn’s winning time was clocked at 56:21. He had Ryan Corrin for company for the first eight miles or so, before stretching away to win by 24 seconds.
Harry Kneen showed that he is strong on the flat as well as the fells with an excellent run to take third place, with Alan Corlett in a good fourth having raced very little this year. Eamon Farrell was fifth ahead of Mark Burman, who rounded out the top six.
In seventh place overall was the women’s winner Christa Cain, who set a blistering time of 59:49. She became the second female competitor to break the hour for the course, and was just five seconds outside Rachael Franklin’s record time set in 2020.
Second in the women’s race was last year’s winner Kirsty Barber, who started steadily before gradually winding the pace up. It was good to see Becci Pate racing for the first time since last November, and she was close behind Kirsty in the first half, and finished only 44 seconds behind.
Joanne Schade had another excellent run to place fourth, and she was followed by Sammy Bowden and Laura Dickinson.
Western AC were double champions of the inaugural team competitions, scooping the men’;s and women’s titles.
It was a record-breaking edition of the historic event, with 124 finishers being the most in the race’s 117-year history.
