Section of Raad Closed for Works

A closure is in place between Knocksharry halt and Lynague for ditching works on the old railway line which makes up part of the Raad Ny Foillan.

The DoI said originally it had been its intention to undertake this work whilst keeping the path open to the public, however, the hasn’t proved possible.

It said that once work started it became apparent that the ground was significantly wetter and softer than the initial visual survey had identified, and sections of the path are currently impassable, and are likely to be so until works are complete which is why a closure became necessary.

The DoI said: “It is currently anticipated that this section of the Raad will reopen to pedestrian traffic on or before Sunday April 13.

“These works are being done now to ensure this section of the path is available for the summer season when it is more heavily used.

An alternative route between Knocksharry and Lynague runs from the Peel to Michael Coast road from Knocksharry halt, east along a short section of the old rail line (opposite side of the main road), onto the switchback.

Pedestrians should re-join the coast road where there is a footway north of the junction with the Switchback and re-cross the road to re-join the Raad at Lynague and north to Michael.

Walkers are advised to use this route rather than walk along the section of road without a footway.
