A section of the Raad Ny Foillan coastal path in Michael will close to all users from next Monday for about five weeks.
The closure affects the old railway line between Orrisdale North and Orrisdale South junctions. Work will focus on replacing the existing narrow former railway bridge with a wider, stronger structure.
The DoI said the project will “improve accessibility and will make the path suitable for year round use by an expanded cross section of the community, including wheelchair and push pram users”.
In addition to the bridge replacement, the path’s surface will be upgraded using rolled road planings to address current muddy conditions.
The improvements, agreed with Michael District Commissioners, will also allow for more efficient future maintenance using tractor-mounted equipment.
While works are underway, a signed diversion for Public Right of Way users will be in place via Orrisdale Road.
