Ayre and Michael MHK and Chief Minister Alfred Cannan has raised urgent concerns over TT course road closures scheduled for next month.
Mr Cannan has warned that diverted traffic, including farm machinery and HGVs, will face severe disruption on narrow rural roads during one of the busiest periods of the farming year.
The closures on August 8 and 15 request to allow specialist filming for the Isle of Man TT film, and will push vehicles onto minor routes such as Orrisdale and Bollyn.
Simply Not Capable
Mr Cannan said these roads “are simply not capable” of sustaining alternative traffic flows and can quickly become blocked, creating serious jams and preventing people from getting to work or shops receiving deliveries.
He has asked the Department of Infrastructure to put in place managed access windows, traffic marshals, and potentially a rolling one‑way system through the tightest sections. He also called for clear guidance on residential access on both dates, including how people will reach morning ferries and flights.
Further requests include manned crossings at Ballaugh Crossroads, traffic officers at heavy‑use junctions and housing estate entrances, and clear signage for alternative routes such as Jurby Road.
Mr Cannan said the scale of the operation, combined with farm access points along the diversion routes, requires “a full and proper road team” and comprehensive public communication.
