The Guilcagh Farm in Andreas hosted the Isle of Man International Shears over the weekend and attracted shearers from around the globe.
The event hasn’t taken place on the island for around 10 years, but thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of Phillip Christian and Rose Crellin it was brought back to life.
Manx.News spoke to event organiser Phillip Christian who explained how the event was resurrected:
When thinking of sport, shearing isn’t necessarily the first thing that springs to mind, but let me tell you, it isn’t for the faint hearted.
Phillip as humble as ever told us about the event, but in his own right is one hell of an accomplished shearer, as well as quite the busy farmer.
Last year, he competed across the United Kingdom in shearing competitions, including at the World Championships that were held at the Highland Show.
A lot of work has gone into resurrecting the event, as well as gaining sponsors who have generously donated prizes.
