Peel Commissioners says that the cost of the fireworks display is £1.50 per resident in the town.
It was revealed at the local authority’s board meeting last night, after a resident contacted complaining that the event is a ‘waste’ of ratepayer’s money.
The resident also said the show goes ‘against’ some of the policies the commissioners have in place to protect the environment in the town and should not be held next year.
However, it was agreed by the local authority that next year’s fireworks display would be organised by a new board after elections in April and that decision is not up to them to make.
