Sir William’s Head Goes on Display

Photo: Douglas Council

A bronze plaque featuring a life-size portrait of Sir William Hillary has been placed in one of Douglas’ sunken gardens.

Councillor Peter John Washington and Head of Parks Suzanne Parkinson received the plaque this week.

Featuring a laurel wreath, lifeboat and the Tower of Refuge, the plaque has been loaned to Douglas Council by the RNLI until a new lifeboat station is built in Douglas Harbour.

It has been erected alongside other RNLI memorials in the garden at the south end of Douglas promenades.
