The pride of Mezeron, Silver River, is set to depart Manx shores for the final time next year and her replacement will be somewhat familiar.
Having served the company and the island so well during her years in service, Silver River, built in 1968, is available for sale.
Advertised for $330,000, the 47.72m single decked cargo ship is described on the website advertising her sale as “one of a kind”.
Mezeron MD Steve Walton said that the new vessel will be replacing the “much beloved Silver River” with a vessel which is 20m longer and over three metres wider.
He told Manx.News: “Time and tide wait for no man’, as Chaucer once said.
“The vessel we have acquired is called the Snaefell River and has been registered on Isle of Man Flag. She is currently sailing from Tallin in Estonia back to the island and we anticipate arrival just after Christmas.
“This vessel is larger than the Silver and removes some of the issues we have faced for years with the size of the Silver River.”
Workload
Mezeron will continue to operate the Silver River in early January whilst its crew get familiarised with the Snaefell, and then will cease operations with the Snaefell taking over.

Familiar Face
There is no doubt that many people will remember Mezeron’s new vessel, while now called Snaefell, she was once named CEG Orbit, sailing under the flag of Latvia.
In August 2021 she famously ran aground on the island’s west coast when the crew member on the bridge had an “urgent need to go to the toilet”.
There was no fault found with the ship, with that incident being entirely blamed on the crew.
