Some Green Lanes to Shut For TT

The Department of Infrastructure has applied for a temporary closure order on a number of the island’s green lanes for this year’s TT.

The lanes selected are on the uplands and are generally dead ends that lead to areas of open hillside in the vicinity of the TT Course.

The closure period, if approved, will be from May 23 to June 6.

Green Lanes Closure

It said: “Unfortunately in past years riders often unfamiliar with the Island have used these green lanes to access areas of land that are vulnerable to being damaged and where it is illegal to ride.

“The particular lanes that are being considered for temporary closure have been identified by DEFA Rangers as places where riders habitually enter open hillside to ride motorcycles illegally.”

The application was made following consultation with DEFA and the Countryside Access Group.

The DoI intend to publish a more detailed post in due course detailing which lanes are included and more about the background for the closure application.
