A UK-based specialist contractor has been enlisted by the DoI to conduct precautionary safety checks before drainage works resume at Ronaldsway.
In June devices containing phosphorous, believed to date back to the 1940s, were uncovered with the UK Military UXO disposal team having to come over to dispose of them.
Next week, specialists will arrive to perform a full site examination and any additional devices found will also be disposed of.
“Before we can proceed with the drainage project, it’s essential we ensure the site is safe,” said Matt Shaw, Operations Director at the airport.
“We’re keeping local residents informed throughout the process to provide reassurance and updates on progress.”
Flights were unaffected by the initial discovery, and no disruption is expected during the upcoming inspections.
The safety assessment and clearance are anticipated to take between two and four weeks.
