Students at Ramsey Grammar School have taken part in a two‑part poultry dressing practical, supported by the Manx National Farmers’ Union and local producers.
The sessions were delivered by Clare, James and George from Isle of Man Goats, alongside Marion Arthur and Year 12 and 13 Agriculture students.
The first workshop focused on demonstration, with students invited to try elements of the preparation process under Clare’s guidance.
According to the MNFU, pupils were “very proactive” in getting involved.
Poultry Dressing
A second, fully guided session followed, with each student preparing their own bird from plucking through to oven‑ready.
All students completed the full process, with the MNFU noting that “no student shied away from the task” and that every duck was “very presentable”.
Clare led the group through each stage, while James and George provided practical support throughout.
The Union also offered thanks, and an apology, to the school’s cleaning team, who dealt with a room “full of feathers”, though staff noted this was not unusual given the productivity of the agriculture cohort. Students also volunteered to help with the clean‑up.
The group rounded off the session with a light‑hearted observation: that certain organs of a drake are significantly larger than its brain.
