Team is Ready to do the Island Proud

More than 150 athletes from the Isle of Man will compete at the Orkney 2025 Island Games, set to begin on July 12.

Around 2,000 competitors from 24 member islands will take part in 12 sports, with the Manx squad represented in all but one.

The Isle of Man team will be the third largest at the event, behind only hosts Orkney and the Shetland Islands.

Team Manager Gary Jakeman said: “We’ve got a very strong team and high hopes. We’re excited, prepared, and ready to make the Isle of Man proud.”

The Princess Royal will attend the opening ceremony at Kirkwall’s Bignold Park where swimmer Laura Kinley will carry the Manx flag, while 13-year-old gymnast Phoebe Christian, the team’s youngest member, will serve as water carrier—a symbolic tradition uniting islands.

Orkney 2025 Director Kirsty Talbot said: “We’re on the brink of a truly unforgettable event that will celebrate Orkney’s rich heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, which will make this a memorable event for everyone involved.”

The Isle of Man has been confirmed as the 2029 host, following the Faroe Islands in 2027.
