High jumper Tegan Thompson made her Island Games debut last year at the age of 15 and performed very well, but a knee injury has since stalled her progress.
Tegan has spent the past six months working very hard on her rehabilitation including a lot of strength and conditioning work, and last Saturday she made her long-awaited comeback in the Southport Waterloo AC Open Meeting.
In her first competition for more than a year she equalled her personal best with a jump of 1.55 metres, a remarkable effort which gives her an Island Games A standard.

Writing on her Facebook page, Tegan commented “Not expecting much as I had only done three training sessions jumping again, I would’ve been happy jumping 1.45m even 1.50m.”
High Hopes For Tegan’s Future
“But I equalled my current pb and I couldn’t be happier about it. Jumping 1.55m in my first competition back was something special and something I want to remember forever, I even won my age group so what a way to end being an U17 roll on U20 next year”, Tegan added.
Tegan has shown a lot of resilience to overcome her injury issues, and whilst out of action she has contributed a lot to the sport by helping to officiate and encouraging all the young athletes.
With her problems hopefully behind her, Tegan can now look forward to a full winter of training and an exciting season in 2025!
