Issues with the government’s ferry terminal in Liverpool are to be fixed in the autumn.
In berthing trials for Manxman and Ben-my-Chree last year, it was discovered that, at lower tides, mooring lines clashed with a dolphin fender. Some winter sailings were affected as a result.
The DoI is employing contractors in Merseyside to carry out the work, which cannot be done while Manannan, which is unaffected, is using the terminal.
In the long term, the DoI said the work will ensure fewer disruptions to the schedule and a more robust connection between the Isle of Man and Liverpool.
Despite the terminal having been open for over a year, the government has still not admitted how much the scheme cost taxpayers, its last estimate was at least £70m.
Schedules
To enable the work to be carried out, sailings to and from Liverpool on November 1 and 2 will now operate to Heysham, with coach transfers to Liverpool Terminal laid on for affected passengers.
Managing Director Brian Thomson said: “We know this is frustrating and disappointing for passengers.
“However, by making limited changes to the schedule now, it is hoped the necessary works can be undertaken to allow us to offer a comprehensive schedule of weekend sailings to Liverpool throughout the rest of the Winter.”
Even after these works, it is expected further work will be required in the new year.
